AllCoreDevs - Testing CL Breakout #088
Transcript
- james
I think I missed something ( or was distracted) was devnet 7 supposed to be used as an open devnet for app devs to connect to for testing? ( was there information on how to connect posted somewhere?)
- Nico Flaig
what edge cases?
- Luca | Vero
I would appreciate CL clients input on this Beacon API improvement regarding produceBlockV4 🙏 PR: https://github.com/ethereum/beacon-APIs/pull/627 Context: https://ptb.discord.com/channels/595666850260713488/710831784991916072/1527627274122297436 ( "Consensus Layer -> apis" channel ) cc @Chris Berry (not sure if Miguel already told you about this but this should be very relevant to Vouch)
- terence
Prysm has it
- james
We don’t have the key manager api that’s standardized
- Dustin
yeah it's premature to talk about do clients in general have it already merged, when it's this amorphous in specs too
- Dustin
we need it sure
- james
Up for discussion I think I was looking at it https://github.com/ethereum/keymanager-APIs/pull/87 this was proposed
- Chris Berry
Reacted to "I would appreciate C..." with 👍

Please take a look at this ^
- Parithosh Jayanthi
What are the other EIPs that need merging?

That key manager api pr builds on potuz’s jit proposal on beacon apis https://github.com/ethereum/beacon-APIs/pull/625 and then there’s https://github.com/ethereum/builder-specs/commit/5078eabc63cf092007bb933ae16209087c053eba

- Nico Flaig
@potuz it has merge conflicts since we merged my other PR
- Luca | Vero
And mine is also related https://github.com/ethereum/beacon-APIs/pull/627 though not conflicting necessarily
- cayman
I think lodestar has a draft PR, planning on implementing
- Eitan Seri-Levi
Yes we are
- Nico Flaig
Replying to "I think lodestar has..." yeah my pr, but that needs a lot of work
- Dustin
depends on specs going in, no?
- terence
Sorry I have to run. Have a good day everyone
Call summary
Targets
- •DevNet 8: large public devnet, ~first week of August - 00:05:26
- •Testnet upgrades: September (tentative, dependent on findings) - 00:05:26
- •Builder API / direct-connection changes targeted for DevNet 8 (~2 weeks) - 00:15:33
Decisions
- •Kurtosis preferred over devnet for controlled fork-choice / attestation debugging - 00:19:58
Highlights
- Testing Progress:
- ·Chaos testing (blob spam, malicious CL) planned this week pending Aussie PR merges - 00:01:49
- ·300M gas limit and >8,192 deposit payloads not yet tested on devnet - 00:02:15
- ·DevNet 8 targeted as large public devnet ~2 weeks out; testnet upgrades hoped for September - 00:05:08
- ·Parallel non-finality DevNet and decoupled consensus test also planned alongside DevNet 8 - 00:06:22
- ·Potuz running Kurtosis fork-choice scenarios; results broadly correct but unexplained stray attestations observed - 00:18:33
- Builder Api And Epbs:
- ·Builder API and POST ProduceBlock spec PRs must merge before clients can implement; blocking DevNet 8 readiness - 00:07:01
- ·Terence: delaying API merge risks it landing too late even for testnet; early review critical - 00:10:40
- ·CommitBoost and MevBoost community willing to help test once builder API is finalized - 00:13:55
- ·Ahead-of-time builder preferences still unresolved; Nico favors simplifying spec and dropping uncertain complexity - 00:16:13
Action Items
- •CL teams - Review and merge beacon-APIs PR #625 (POST ProduceBlock), keymanager-APIs PR #87, and related builder-specs change - 00:07:01
- •Terence / Justin Traglia - Raise builder API testing coordination with MevBoost community call (PBS Foundation) - 00:13:20
Key decisions
Kurtosis preferred over devnet for controlled fork-choice / attestation debugging
