Account Abstraction
Live on-chain usage, the proposal family, native-AA work, and related calls
Account Abstraction usage on mainnet
The two account-abstraction mechanisms live on Ethereum today, measured directly on-chain: EIP-7702 (Set EOA code, transaction type 4) and ERC-4337 (EntryPoint transactions). Counts come from mainnet transactions.
Ethereum ecosystem view
Where account abstraction sits inside all mainnet activity: transaction mix, composition, and economics.
Transaction mix
How each transaction format's share of mainnet traffic shifts over time.
Transaction type market share
Share of all mainnet transactions by typed-transaction format, per month.
EIP-1559 dominates; watch EIP-4844 (blobs) and EIP-7702 (set-code) climb from the baseline. Live from mainnet.
Typed-transaction migration
Share of mainnet transactions by format since EIP-2718: legacy falling, EIP-1559 dominant, newer typed formats rising.
Every non-legacy format is a typed EIP-2718 transaction. EIP-1559 carries most traffic; EIP-4844 and EIP-7702 are the newest entrants. Live from mainnet.
Fees & composition
What each transaction type and class costs and contributes, in USD or volume.
Economics by transaction type
Value ($), volume, gas, and reliability split by transaction type, per month.
Value is fees paid in USD; volume is the transaction count; gas shows resource use; fail rate shows reliability. Live from mainnet.
L1 transaction composition
Mainnet transactions by what they do, per month: transfers, contract calls, blobs, set-code.
Contract calls and plain transfers dominate; blob and set-code are new transaction classes. Live from mainnet.
EIP-7702 adoption
Uptake of set-code accounts since the Pectra activation.
EIP-7702 account adoption
Distinct delegated accounts vs total 7702 transactions each month, since Pectra.
Accounts measure how many EOAs actually delegate; transactions measure how active they are. Live from mainnet.
EIP-7702 adoption after activation
Cumulative 7702 transactions by months since Pectra, so adoption speed is comparable across feature launches.
Dashed lines mark roughly 30, 90, 180, and 365 days after activation. Live from mainnet.
Blob demand (EIP-4844)
Layer-2 data-availability usage: blob transactions and how much data each carries.
Blob usage (EIP-4844)
Blob transactions per month (bars) and average blobs per transaction (line): L2 data-availability demand and its intensity.
More blob transactions means more L2 activity; more blobs per transaction means each one carries more data. Live from mainnet.
Terms explained▾
- Legacy (type 0)
- The original fixed gas-price transaction, from before EIP-1559.
- EIP-2930 · access list (type 1)
- A transaction that pre-declares the storage it will touch to make some calls cheaper.
- EIP-1559 · dynamic fee (type 2)
- The default format since 2021: a protocol base fee that is burned, plus a tip to the validator.
- EIP-4844 · blob (type 3)
- A blob-carrying transaction that posts cheap, short-lived data for L2 rollups (proto-danksharding). Live since Dencun, 2024.
- EIP-7702 · set-code (type 4)
- Lets a normal wallet temporarily run smart-account code while keeping its address and key. Live since Pectra, 2025.
- ERC-4337 · EntryPoint
- Smart-account wallets that run off-protocol through a shared EntryPoint contract, with no change to Ethereum itself. Live since 2023.
- Gas
- The unit that measures how much computation a transaction uses. Fees = gas used x gas price.
EIP-7702 adoption index
is the ecosystem absorbing it?Adoption runs deeper than usage: it moves through the clients, the infrastructure, the apps, and finally the users. User and application layers are measured on-chain; protocol is a shipped fact.
Protocol adoption
Live since PectraThe clients implement it
Shipped in the Pectra upgrade: implemented by every major execution client.
Infrastructure adoption
Native on-chainRPCs, indexers and explorers support it
EIP-7702 is a first-class transaction type (type 4), so explorers and indexers surface it directly.
Application adoption
… contractsWallets, dapps and L2s use it
Distinct contracts that EIP-7702 transactions have interacted with (a breadth proxy for app usage).
User adoption
… accountsReal on-chain usage
… transactions from … distinct accounts since Pectra.
