Will we have the deterministic deployer factory (Arachnid using Nick's method) on glam devnet 6? @pk910 I assume we won't have it in devnet 5?

  • Parithosh Jayanthi

IMO we should just bite the bullet now and move that over too. One branch everyone works on so we can focus on shipping glammy.

Isn’t this an ACDC topic instead of EL?

Why do we do this at the beacon contract level instead of just do it an any application level, make you money private to a new account and then deposit from that account

  • Toni Wahrstätter

I like the push for privacy, but this feels like an unecessary step towards full privacy on L1. Why would a validator not just use a privacy protocol (railway, tc, privacy pools etc) afterwards instead of the protcol doing the mixing? Also, it still feels early to enshrine zk proofs minting eth.

  • Luis Pinto | Besu

Replying to "Why do we do this at..." I guess the staking pool is so big now but reducing it might reduce power of privacy

I don’t understand the plausible deniability part, an authority will ask me to give proof what I have used the pool for. Are you saying that it would not be possible to provide this proof?

You can deposit just 1 ETH

  • CPerezz

    exactly

  • CPerezz

Reacted to "You can deposit just..." with 👍

  • Potuz

I think this is just trying to enshrine a privacy pool

  • lightclient

If we were to enshrine a privacy pool, we should enshrine one that doesn’t require you to stake as part of it

  • CPerezz

Replying to "I think this is just..." But one that has “legitimate, non-mixing-goal” traffic

  • Pierre

Replying to "I don’t understand t..." Pretty much yes, you can plausibly say that you are using it for staking

  • CPerezz

Replying to "I think this is just..." That is in my view the key part. You can’t just ban/mark address of this pool as you can with TC

  • Luca Donno | L2BEAT

Replying to "I don’t understand t..." But can I prove it? Because if I can then there is no plausible deniability

  • Potuz

Replying to "If we were to enshri..." I read the proposal in a different way and it starts making some sense: 1) we enshrine 1 privacy pool that can be used for anything. 2) if you want to stake you MUST send to that privacy pool.

  • Pierre

Reacted to "That is in my view t..." with 👍

  • Potuz

Replying to "If we were to enshri..." This way your enshrined privacy pool is guaranteed to have a lot of liquidity

  • CPerezz

Replying to "If we were to enshri..." Mixing staking with the fund transfer/mixing is the sauce of this no?

  • Luca Donno | L2BEAT

Replying to "I don’t understand t..." Since an authority will treat no proof as me lying

  • Potuz

Replying to "If we were to enshri..." At least it would make sense to me this way, but still is kinda crazy to push this to L1 right now

  • Luca Donno | L2BEAT

Replying to "I don’t understand t..." Tornado cash has no plausible deniability afaik

  • Pierre

Reacted to "Tornado cash has no ..." with 👍

  • Potuz

Replying to "I don’t understand t..." You can prove that you sent your TC money to a particular account, and that account deposited to the beacon contract

  • Pierre

Replying to "I don’t understand t..." Yes, this is mixing funds seeking TC functionality with those seeking staking functionality

  • CPerezz

Replying to "If we were to enshri..." Is the timing the issue? Or is it the privacy pool enshrining?

  • CPerezz

Reacted to "Yes, this is mixing ..." with 👍

  • Toni Wahrstätter

Thanks for clarifying, @mo (@mmjahanara) . So churn might be fine, I was wrong. I still think it's fine to just use privacy protocols and we focus on making it more simple/cheap/secure/trustless to use those, instead of making so big changes for a very small set of "users", which are validators.

  • Potuz

Replying to "If we were to enshri..." I am fine with enshrining a privacy pool on L1 early, I think forcing validators to use it is crazy

  • Ahmad Bitar | Nethermind

I think we need to decide first if we want to enshrine a privacy pool in protocol or not. Once the answer is yes, we can then discuss the different mechanisms.

Key decisions

  • bal-devnet-7 is the final BAL-specific devnet; no bal-devnet-8; all future work on Glamsterdam devnets

    bal-devnet-7
  • glamsterdam-devnet-6 includes EIP-8246 (self-destruct burn removal), EIP-7997 (deterministic deployer), EIP-8038 + EIP-2780 (repricing with preliminary values); EIP-7610 deferred

    glamsterdam-devnet-6
  • PFI for Hegota: EIP-8131 + EIP-8279 (data repricing / block size), EIP-7979 + EIP-8173 (EVM object format / validation), EIP-7851 (permanent EOA delegation), EIP-8151 (EC Recover deactivation); EIP-8222 (lean staking) not targeting Hegota
