Call summary

Targets
  • Glamsterdam devnet-6 launch: within 1-2 days (targeting today if 2+ additional ELs ready) — 00:11:13
  • REST SSZ Engine API breakout call: Friday at 1300 UTC — 00:23:24
Decisions
  • No decision yet on EIP-7688 for devnet-7; defer to ACDC after observing devnet-6 stability — 00:20:12
Highlights
  • Organizational:
    • ·ACDC this week at 1400 UTC (original time); last week's earlier slot was a one-off — 00:23:12
    • ·New REST SSZ Engine API breakout call this Friday at 1300 UTC — 00:23:24
  • Testing Progress:
    • ·Glamsterdam devnet-5 running; most Prysm nodes offline, Teku and Reth also down — 00:10:48
    • ·devnet-6 targeting launch in 1-2 days; requires at least 3 ELs (ethrex confirmed; Nimbus/Lighthouse branches also now available) — 00:11:13
    • ·glamsterdam-devnet@v6.0.0 EL test release published; another release expected Tuesday with EIP-8037/8038 coverage — 00:13:20
    • ·EIP-8045 slashing-before-fork testing flagged as needed for devnet-6 — 00:13:40
  • Epbs Eip7688 Devnet7 Scope:
    • ·EIP-7688 (SSZ stable containers) proposed for devnet-7; Lodestar, Lighthouse, Nimbus ready today; Teku has prototype needing ~2 weeks to update — 00:13:55
    • ·Arguments for inclusion: ePBS stability broadly achieved; 3 CL clients ready; avoids future awkward workarounds (e.g., attestation count changes) — 00:14:00
    • ·Prysm builder API testing urged at devnet level before any 'final devnet' designation; Besu echoed need for unhappy-path testing — 00:17:47
    • ·PTC security concern (voting on non-canonical forks) raised as potential readiness blocker for ePBS; deferred to CL breakout — 00:21:01
    • ·Barnabas: devnet-7 has a good chance of being the final ePBS devnet — 00:17:32
Action Items
  • All CL teams — Discuss EIP-7688 inclusion in devnet-7 and builder API scope at ACDC Thursday — 00:20:12

    Nimbus has a branch

  • Eitan Seri-Levi

Lighthouse has one. Interops with lodestar and teku

  • Barnabas

    oh nice

  • Barnabas

we should only need couple more ELs then

  • Guru

Reacted to "Nimbus has a branch" with 👍

  • Nico Flaig

we should test slashing validators before the fork this time to properly test 8045

  • Barnabas

For EL devs, `glamsterdam-devnet@v6.0.0` released on Friday: https://github.com/ethereum/execution-specs/releases/tag/tests-glamsterdam-devnet%40v6.0.0 There's another release expected tomorrow with additional coverage for 8037/8038!

  • Barnabas

I think we would have a good solid chance to have devnet 7 to be our final devnet btw

  • Toni Wahrstätter

imo, the strongest argument is that it keeps on-chain proofs against the beacon root stable. The fact that it allows us avoiding bumping some constants (e.g. 8192 deposits) is a less strong argument.

  • Toni Wahrstätter

how long will including this EIP delay things for those clients that don't have it yet?

  • Dustin

Toni: I agree actually, that the stability is the stonger point longer-term

  • Justin Traglia

Reacted to "imo, the strongest a..." with 👍

  • Barnabas

we should have a final scope before we doing edge case testing

  • Barnabas

otherwise the edge case testing is redundant

  • Nico Flaig

will there be a public temporary testnet like we had with mekong for electra?

  • Bharath

Replying to "we should have a fin..." We should definitely do builder-api testing at least in devnet-7

  • Justin Florentine (Besu)

Reacted to "will there be a publ..." with ➕

  • Bharath

I understand that clients would have been more focused on EIP-8282 for devnet-6 but I think scoping builder-api for devnet-7 would be reasonable IMO

  • Barnabas

I’d prefer to have some vibe check on today’s call.
